Our stake does a “Covenant Prep” course for all seniors in high school. It evolved from missionary prep to covenant prep to really get them to think about temple covenants and more of a lifelong commitment to live up to the covenants they make. My daughter has been attending.

It used to be several weeks but this year has been condensed down to 4 total times they meet, getting to the important things and cutting out the fluff. On Sunday they got to meet in the temple with the Temple Pres and his wife to talk more specifically about the endowment.

It was a great experience for them and my daughter thought the entire 4 weeks they met was great and lots of good and important material covered. Things like this are what the youth need.

The great thing about it is many like to go because it’s exclusive to them as 17 and 18 years old, about to take those steps of entering into temple covenants, serve missions, or just be out on their own.

I hate to be cynical but it just sounds like a sales job. That said, if I was an LDS leader, I’d do the same thing.
I hope they included discussions about the LDS Institute programs at the regional institutes, with Institute director speaking and possibly an institute tour.

You’re missing the point of the class. Going to institute doesn’t enter you into a covenant. It’s following exactly what the prophet has been teaching about the convent path, why covenants are part of the restored gospel, why it’s important to enter into covenants, etc.

But those teachings are kind of the opposite of the OT teaching on covenant. The covenant was God's promise to connect with humans, talk to them, be ethical. That's why the Hebrew God was an admirable anomaly in the ancient world. The original covenant was not that humans

You're right, it's a different (new) covenant than what's in teh OT, but it's also prophesied that this new covenant would happen: Jeremiah 31:31-32 -
"Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah:

"Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt; which my covenant they brake, although I was an husband unto them, saith the Lord:

"But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the Lord, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people."
