Read something where they said your future self 20 years from now will be what your thoughts are now. That bodes well for my future self however my current self isn’t indicative of 20 years back.

There is no word in Japanese that means retire in the sense of "leaving the workforce for good" as in English.
Having a purpose in life is so important in Japanese culture that our idea of retirement simply doesn't exist there.
